National Energy cuts off electricity supply in the hardest-hit areas of Terengganu, Kelantan
(Morning News) After days of heavy rainfall, the flood disaster situation in Kelantan and Terengganu on the east coast of West Malaysia has continued to deteriorate. The National Energy Corporation of Malaysia (National Energy) has announced the temporary closure of 322 substations in the flood-stricken areas of these two states, that is, the suspension of power supply to these disaster areas due to flooding of power supply facilities such as substations in the flood-stricken areas.
National Energy said in a statement on Monday (December 19) that 94 substations in four districts of Kelantan will be closed, including 59 in Basma district, 22 in Basafudi district, eight in Tanamera district and five in Kota Balu district. The 228 substations to be closed in the three districts of Terengganu state include 173 in Gamamaban district, 50 in Kuala Beirang district and five in Schiao district. The
statement said that the power supply in the affected areas will be temporarily suspended until the flood situation improves and it is safe. National Energy is working hard to ensure that power supply is restored in stages according to the flood situation. National Energy also reminded the public to be aware of heavy rain and floods, and to stay away from flooded power facilities.
